Car Connectivity comes with FuelOracle 1.3.0 for iPhone and Android. Plug a Bluetooth LE OBD-II adapter into the port under the dash, connect it to the car in your Garage once, and FuelOracle reads the car from then on. The readings and alerts are included with Trip Pass and Full Lapper. The Car Connectivity Test is on every plan, including free.
What it reads
- Fuel level in the tank
- Fuel economy as you drive, in L/100 km
- AdBlue level, on diesels that use it
- Engine oil temperature
- Tyre pressures, on cars that share them
- The odometer
Not every car reports every reading. FuelOracle shows what yours reports.
What FuelOracle does with it
- Your plan starts from the real tank. The measured fuel level takes the place of typing in how much fuel you have. If it differs from the plan by more than your reserve, FuelOracle asks whether to update the plan. It never replans on its own.
- Alerts while you drive. You are told when the oil runs hot or a tyre drops below your minimum, or loses more than 15% from where it started the trip. Towing works an engine harder, so these matter most with the van on.
- Fills logged for you. When the fuel level jumps, FuelOracle asks you to log the fill.
- Records kept up to date. The odometer keeps your trip and vehicle records current, the trip report shows the kilometres you drove each day, and your caravan's hub odometer counts the kilometres it was towed.
- Apple CarPlay. The Car tab shows your fuel economy and readings whenever the adapter is connected, not only during a trip.
When it connects
With Connect automatically on this phone turned on for the car, FuelOracle connects while a trip is under way, while CarPlay is connected, and while the car's screen is open in your Garage. It lets go when the trip ends, and after 10 minutes in the background with no trip and no CarPlay. An adapter talks to one phone at a time, so disconnect the other phone first if you share a car.
Car Connectivity Test
On every plan, including free: plug in an adapter and see which readings your car shares before you rely on them. You can choose to send the results, which helps FuelOracle support more cars.
Plugging in
- Plug the adapter into the OBD port under the dash.
- Unplug it if the car will be parked for more than a few days.
Supported adapters
Recommended
Both Veepeak adapters are tested with FuelOracle and are the ones we recommend.
- Veepeak OBDCheck BLE. Tested on a Land Rover Defender 110 3.0 diesel with an iPhone.
- Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+. Tested on the same Defender.
Being tested
- OBD-AUS Bluetooth Scan Tool from OBD2 Australia. It connects and reads the car. We are still checking every reading.
Should work, not yet tested
These speak the same Bluetooth LE protocol, so they should work, but we haven't tried them on a car yet.
- OBDLink CX
- Vgate iCar Pro BLE 4.0
- Other ELM327-compatible Bluetooth LE adapters
Not supported yet
- OBDLink MX+. It uses classic Bluetooth, which an iPhone only allows with the maker's approval. We have applied and are waiting to hear back.
- GAP IIDTool BT
- Wi-Fi adapters
- Adapters that only do classic Bluetooth, including many cheap ELM327 clones
